Zermatt, Switzerland (Ski Press)-According to swissinfo, a series of powerful snowstorms have been blanketing Switzerland over the past few days, forcing ski resort operators to dig out in time for opening day.
From Sunday until this morning, there was as much as 45cm (about 18 inches) of snow that fell at the upper elevations. This is in addition to a series of storms that already dropped more than a meter (one foot) of snow in three days. “I've been working in the ski industry for 16 years and in that time I've seen conditions this good maybe three or four times,” Eric Balet, director of TeleVerbier, the largest ski-lift company in French-speaking Switzerland, told swissinfo. Weather monitoring stations near Andermatt in central Switzerland report some of the biggest recent totals, with more than 105cm (nearly 42 inches) of snow having fallen over the past few days.
