Big Storm Gets Mammoth Open
Mammoth Mountain, CA -A powerful storm hit the Eastern Sierra over the weekend dropping up to 18 inches of snow on Mammoth Mountain. By late Sunday, resort operators made the decision to open the slopes for skiing and riding on Monday, November 3, a full 10 days prior to schedule.
Broadway Express opened at 9am on a base of 6-12 inches. A combination of natural and manmade snow will greet anxious riders for the first day on the slopes in California.
Killington Started Sunday
Killington, Vermont (Ski Press)-Thanks to the early arrival of winter, Killington Resort opened for the 2008/09 ski and snowboard season, Sunday at 10 a.m. with least six trails served by two lifts off Killington Peak.
Killington offered Blue and Black trails only. No Green Circle (easier) terrain will be available.
“Our snowmaking crew has taken advantage of the premium weather conditions and nearly tripled the 12 inches of natural snow at the peak,” stated Patricia Ryan, director of marketing, sales and reservations. “Over the next 36 hours, snowmaking operations will continue and snowcats will begin working the snow surface to provide our guests the best possible opening day conditions.” |
