Loveland Ski Basin, Colo. (Ski Press)-In their annual race to be the first ski area in North America to fire up the lifts, Loveland and Arapahoe Basin settled for a tie this year.
Both Colorado ski areas opened Wednesday, running one chair apiece and offering skiers a single run with about an 18-inch base. A-Basin had announced earlier in the week that it would open at 9 am on Wednesday, but then Loveland countered, saying it would open at 8:30.
In the end, both areas got an 8:30 am start on the 2008/09 ski season, although it’s possible someone got out of the gate at 8:29 just to keep the bragging rights. |
