Sunapee’s Expansion Bid – Do you Support the West Bowl? Print E-mail

Sunapee, NH (Ski Press)-Mount Sunapee Resort submitted its new 5-Year Master Development Plan (MDP) for 2009-2014 to the New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic

Development as required by its Lease and Operating Agreement with the State of New Hampshire.

In the MDP, Mount Sunapee offers its vision for maintaining the overall facilities at the ski area while also maintaining Mount Sunapee’s appeal and competitive standing in the New England ski marketplace. The MDP includes the West Bowl Expansion which includes a 5,100’ high-speed quad chairlift, a beginner lift, 75 acres of new terrain with four top-to-bottom ski trails, snowmaking, a new base area facility and parking. This would increase Mount Sunapee’s comfortable capacity by 31%. The MDP is designed to produce a high quality recreational experience that is appealing to guests of all ages and abilities while respecting the natural resources of the area.

A Mount Sunapee Advisory Committee meeting and public hearing will be held on Tuesday, July 14 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm in the Sunapee Lodge providing an opportunity to comment on the plan.     NH is in the midst of an economic crisis and cannot support it's State Park system and even floated the outrageous idea of selling 27 State Parks. Allowing the West Bowl Expansion to move forward would pump even more badly needed money into the State Park system. The Governor and Legislature is moving forward with expanding Cannon MT. with revenue from Mt. Sunapee and OUR TAXES. Spending our tax money expanding Cannon, but using private investments to expand Sunapee is somehow not good? What's wrong with this picture!!?!! As a lifetime user of the State Park, askier for 47 years at Mt. Sunape, a resident, a voter and a businessman, I TOTALLY SUPPORT the West Bowl Expansion.

    The West Bowl expansion will offer additional terrain to the largest market of skiers and boarders that choose Mount Sunapee. This is a necessity if Mount Sunapee is to stay competetive with other ski areas in the region.

    More expansion just to add more flat trails? What a waste. No thanks. If there was terrain more challenging I'd say go for it.
