Ludlow, Vermont (Ski Press)-Breaking news this morning from CNL Lifestyle Properties Inc., reports that the company will buy Okemo Mountain Resort in central Vermont, Mount Sunapee in southern New Hampshire and Colorado’s Crested Butte from Tim and Diane Mueller for an estimated $132 million.

Yellowstone, Montana (Ski Press)-The Associated Press is reporting that the tony Yellowstone Club, the private powder reserve of multi-millionaires such as former Vice President Dan Quayle and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, has filed for bankruptcy.

If you were throwing a ski show in the midst of a catastrophic market meltdown, it poured buckets on opening day, and the forecasts called for more rain to come, would you worry? Jim McAlpine didn’t. Or maybe just a little. But when the San Francisco Ski & Snowboard Festival opened its big doors on Saturday, the crowds poured in. Pouring outside, pouring inside — how sweet it was.
