Solitude, Utah (Ski Press)-Got the snow reports pinging the e-mail box yesterday, with ski areas from Utah to Oregon reporting that they were getting shellacked with the white and that more was on the way.
“I am going to estimate about 3 inches on the ground in the Village (8,000 feet) and more up on the hill!!” reported Nick Como from Solitude Ski Area in Utah. “September snow - we'll see what it amounts to, but it sure gives us a chill of excitement to think that the season could be just a few weeks away!” was the report from Mt. Hood Meadows in Oregon. Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort started receiving its first significant snowfall of the season with 6 inches already deposited Wednesday at the base, and up to 20 inches of total snowfall is forecast by this afternoon.
“Overnight, Snowbird has gone from prime fall colors to a complete winter scene,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “This snow may not stick around but it definitely gets our customers excited, and hopefully it’s the start of another great year in the Wasatch.” Snowbird’s Snow Safety Department does not officially begin seasonal snowfall records until Nov. 1 so this week’s snowfall will not count toward the annual accumulation figures. |
