K2 is dedicating a ski to the late Shane McConkey. The freeskier who invented the rockered pontoon ski in 2004, died while base jumping on skis last March in Italy. K2 will release its limited edition Shane McConkey ski based on his pontoon chassis...
in time for the 2009/10 ski season. “His pontoon rockered powder ski was one of the most profound innovations in ski design in decades,” a K2 news release says. “His concept was soon after adopted by the snowboard market thus making the sports more fun for millions of enthusiasts. Approximately 500 pair will be produced by K2 this season, retailing at approximately $700 US. Proceeds will go to McConkey’s family. |
