Brigitte Acton led the Canadian team for the second straight World Cup slalom, finishing Sunday’s race in Zagreb, CRO in 19th place. Unfortunately the result comes after 23-year-old Anna Goodman injured her right knee...

a few gates from the finish of the opening run. ACA Medical Director Dr. Christopher Irving said that Goodman would be returning to Canada for further assessment of a suspected ACL tear.

Acton said she drew inspiration from her injured teammate during tthe second run.

“That was definitely in the back of my head because she is definitely one of my closest friends and a strong teammate. I just tried to keep my mind on what I had to do and race my race. Overall I am continuing to be pretty consistent and I feel like my time will come soon,” Acton said.

“To see (Goodman) go down was really sad,” said Acton. “But it happens in our sport. It’s tough to see one of your teammates go down. It makes you realize that it can happen to anybody.”

This fifth World Cup slalom of the season was won by Sandrine Aubert of France, her second slalom win in three races. Aubert, who sat fourth after the opening run on the Crveni Spust piste, eventually won in a two-run combined time of two minutes 00.36 seconds.

Austria’s Kathrin Zettel was 0.43s back with Susanne Riesch of Germany in third.

The other Canadian results had Marie-Michèle Gagnon (Lac-Etchemin, QC) 46th after the opening run, just under a second from qualifying for the second run. Shona Rubens (Canmore, AB) did not finish her opening run.
