Manny Osborne-Paradis placed 10th in today's downhill race in Bormio, Italy...

Slovenia's Andrej Jerman was first, followed by Sweden's Didier Defago in second and Austria's Michael Walchhofer in third.

Here are the details as reported by the ACA:

Manuel Osborne-Paradis (Whistler, BC) closed the 2009 year with his best career result in the downhill at Bormio, ITA, finishing in 10th place.  

Today's race can be seen on the GMC Alpine Ski Series on CBC Saturday January 2nd beginning at 2 p.m. ET as well as on www.cbcsports.ca.

Osborne-Paradis, who came out of the starting gate with the bib number 16, covered the 3.27 kilometers race course in a time two minutes 02.03 seconds. He is already a winner of a World Cup DH race in Val Gardena, ITA and the super-G race in Lake Louise, AB so far this season.

Osborne-Paradis currently sits in fourth place in the World Cup downhill season standings with 144 points. He is also fourth in the super-G standings and eighth in the overall rankings for the 2009/2010 World Cup season.

Slovenia’s Andrej Jerman, who had the fastest time in training yesterday, also won today’s race, finishing in 2:00.32. Switzerland’s Didier Defago finished second as he recorded a time of 2:00.85 and Autria’s Michael Walchhofer crossed the finish line with a time of 2:01.35.

Robbie Dixon (Whistler, BC) finished 12th today, racing the Stelvio piste for only the first time in his career. He was just 0.1s behind his teammate Osborne-Paradis.

“The race was good but very tiring! I was happy with how things went considering it is my first time racing here. I almost lost it towards the bottom and lost some time there but all in all I was very happy with how I skied,” said Dixon.

“I was happy especially after that dirty fall I had in Alta Badia. I was pretty bruised and had a sore ankle so to carry the confidence and the success from this year into a very challenging course felt good,” added Dixon. 

The third Canadian who took part in this downhill race, Erik Guay (Mont-Tremblant, QC), was not able to finish the race as he went out on top of the course.

The men’s team will be taking a quick break for the rest of the calendar year, races resume on January 6th with a technical race in Zagreb, CRO.
