Erik Guay finished with the seventh best time in today’s men’s World Cup super-G in Val Gardena, ITA, but Francois Bourque has been re-injured...Â
Unfortunately the news was not all good as ACA Chief Athletics Officer Max Gartner, who is with the men’s team this week in Val Gardena, confirmed that François Bourque (L'Ange Gardien, QC), sustained a suspected re-tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during today’s race. Bourque is expected to return to Canada and will miss the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver / Whistler, BC. Bourque originally suffered the injury while training prior to the 2008 Bombardier Lake Louise Winterstart, and missed the entire 2008-2009 World Cup season. He left the track following a jump in today’s run but skied his way to the bottom of the course. Today’s race was won by Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal in a time of 1:38.35 followed closely by Carlo Janka of Switzerland and Italy’s Patrick Staudacher. Guay finished in a time of 1:39.30 with Dixon 0.01s behind. Manuel Osborne-Paradis (Vancouver, BC) was 17th, Jeffrey Frisch (Mont-Tremblant, QC) 32nd and Louis-Pierre Hélie (Berthierville, QC) finished 50th. Today’s race is televised on Sportsnet with coverage beginning at 3 p.m. ET in the eastern viewing region and 7 p.m. local time in all other areas. The Men’s World Cup event in Val Gardena continues tomorrow with a downhill event. The Men’s downhill race will be live on cbcsports.ca starting from 6:05 to 7:30 a.m. ET. It will then be broadcasted on the main network from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. ET. The race is on Radio-Canada.ca starting at 6:14 a.m. ET. The ladies DH from Val d’Isère, FRA is also televised on CBC at 2 p.m. ET as well as live on cbcsports.ca and Radio-Canada.ca. Photo credit: CanSki |
